The New Covenant Jeremiah 31

"But this is the covenant that I will make with the house of Israel after those days, declares the LORD: I will put my law within them, and I will write it on their hearts. And I will be their God, and they shall be my people. And no longer shall each one teach his neighbor and each his brother, saying, 'Know the LORD,' for they shall know me, from the least of them to the greatest, declares the LORD. For I will forgive their iniquity, and I will remember their sin no more. Thus says the LORD, who gives the sun for light by day and the fixed order of the moon and the stars for light by night, who stirs up the sea so that its waves roar- the LORD of hosts is his name: "If this fixed order departs from before me, declares the LORD, then shall the offspring of Israel cease from being a nation before me forever." Thus says the LORD: "If the heavens above can be measured , and the foundations of the earth below explored, then I will cast off the offspring of Israel for all that they have done, declares the LORD.""- Jeremiah 31:33-37

The beauty of this passage is amazing! It is like one of those moments, when you are on top of a mountain and you realize how small you are compared to the world. When spend most of our life trying to make much of ourselves, but in reality we were created to make make much of God! But like I said, we fail at making much of God because we are enslaved to sin. So God brings about this New Covenant, which will rescue his people from the enslavement of sin. All of us fail to follow God's Law! (Romans 3:23) But God rescues us by sending Jesus to die on a cross for the punishment of our sin! It is by Jesus and His work alone that God then puts His law within us, and writes it on our heart! There are many religious people out in the world today, which include Muslims, Christians, Hindus, and many others. And these religious people believe that if they can do enough good works then they can win God's approval. But there wrong, and there destination is hell. Notice in this passage from Jeremiah that God never says if my people do this, then I will write the law on their heart, and forgive them. NO! He says "I will put my law within them, and write it on their heart. And I will be their God, and they shall be my people.....for they shall all know me.....for I will forgive their iniquity, and I will remember their sin no more." You see! Good works are a response to the Salvation given to us by God! God's Grace and Mercy for us are based on Jesus Christ and His work alone, nothing we do can win the approval of God! Christian your salvation is secured in Jesus! We have been rescued! Oh how wonderful and Great is our God! Notice what is said next in the passage "Thus says the LORD, who gives sun for light by day and the fixed order of the moon and the stars for light by night, who stirs up the sea so that its waves roar- the LORD of hosts is his name: "if this fixed order departs from before me, declares the LORD, then shall the offspring of Israel cease from being a nation before me forever.....If the heavens above can be measured , and the foundations of the earth below can be explored, then I will cast off all the offspring of Israel for all that they have done, declares the LORD." WOW! The author here reminds us of God's sovereignty over the universe. Just like God has set and is in charge of the universe, he has set our salvation in order and no one can take that away! And again gives an impossible task such as measuring the heavens(space), and says like that is impossible so is me taking away this New Covenant (Salvation). So Christian, rejoice! I say again Rejoice! Your Salvation is secured! No worries should be upon you! God has rescued you! Now let our lives be marked with obedience to God, and declaring this Great Salvation to the world!
