City Project Update

Hey everyone,
I hope all of you are doing great! I just got back from New York City
last night, and I had an awesome time. I am now in week two of The
City Project, and just wanted to give all of you some updates about
what has been happening.
I am living in the city of Durham in an area called Walltown, which is
on the edge of Dukes campus. This past week was filled with getting to
know my team, and the city better. I found out that I will be
interning with the Pastor of the Summit’s North Raleigh Campus, and
will be working with Church World Services during the summer. I do not
really know what to expect with the internship, so please pray that
God guides me during the internship and that I am able to bring Him
glory doing it. Church World Services works with refugees that have
just arrived into the United States, and tries to help them get
settled into their new life in the United States. So really we are
there to help them learn how to get around in the city, get jobs,
speak English, etc.. Pray that God opens up opportunities to preach
the gospel of Jesus to them, and that I am able to love these people
like God loves us.
As I mentioned above I just got back from New York City! Wow, what an
amazing city! It is truly one of the most beautiful places I have ever
been! The beauty of the City truly lies with its people. It is so
diverse! It almost seems like God took the entire world and squeezed
it, and the drop of people that fell became New York City! Our teams
mission was to evangelize in heavily Muslim populated areas. Starting
conversations with complete strangers is extremely hard and scary for
me! So God totally stretched me this past week! While there, a
missionary in the City trained us on the importance of sharing our
faith and how we can make the Gospel clear for our audience! Truly
learned so much from this man, please pray for him (Brad Laws) as he
continues to work in the City. Our team shared the gospel with a so
many people! One team got to share the Gospel with the "Top" Muslim or
main priest of Islam in New York City. Pray for the people of New York
City, pray for those that we shared the Gospel this past week, pray
that God will call them to Himself and show them all the amazing truth
in our savior Jesus! My team personally had a really cool experience
that God put us in: The first day we went out to evangelize we had
know idea what we were doing! I was nervous, and even doubting if we
would get to talk to anyone. I began to pray as I walked down the
street for God to "Use us, open a door for us to declare your glory."
As I prayed I remembered a sheet that we were given to help us start
conversations. One task on the paper was to find Chai Tea (Very good
spicy/sweet tea from India) for under a dollar. So I told my team we
should ask someone where we could find Chai tea. We ended up asking
the next two men we ran into, and they told us to follow them that
they were on there way to eat lunch and drink tea now. We got there
and they invited us to eat lunch with them and there other friend. The
three men were Muslims from Bangladesh. We spent the next few hours
discussing the Islam, and we were to clearly present the Gospel to
them all. They ended up buying our lunch and buying us all three tea!
God is so good! When we were leaving we asked them if we could pray
for them, and they said they wanted us to pray for peace in the world
and that they would live honest lives.
The only way peace can come to the world is through Jesus! Honest
lives, the search for truth, also only found in our wonderful Savior
Jesus! Pray for these men that they do find peace and truth in Jesus!
The fun is just beginning, I am now back in Durham. So I am sure that
God will continue to take me out of my comfort zone during the summer.
But like Paul says in Philippians Chapter 4:12, How he has learned to
be content in all situations (Good, Bad, Scary, Hungry, Sad, Happy,
etc..), because he has Jesus. Jesus is everything to us! The Gospel is
that we deserve Hell because of our sin, but through Jesus we have
salvation. So pray that I be content with my amazing savior Jesus!
Pray that I am bold to declare the Gospel to strangers, and that I
love them as Christ loves us.
I pray for you all this week that you remember that the Gospel says we
deserve Hell, but through Jesus we have been saved. I pray that you
find much delight in this truth, and that joy spreads like wildfire in
all areas of your life! I pray that you all be bold to share the
Gospel!
Thank you for your prayers please let me know if I can pray for you
specifically.

Thanks,
Miles
